Our History
Piper Lunsford and Wendy Woods have been dreaming of their own restaurant since 1980. While working together at Windmill, a restaurant in Durham, they became best buddies. Soon they moved to Hilton Head Island to test their wings and gain practical food experience outside of their hometown of Durham.

In 1984, Piper moved back to Durham to start a restaurant called Piper's Deli with her dad, Wendell Lunsford. The Lunsford family designed and built Piper's Deli from the ground up, including the concept, the menu and the building. Piper's Deli enjoyed great success and a loyal following. The Lunsfords sold their interest in the restaurant and land in 1998, although it retains the old name.

Wendy stayed in Hilton Head for a few more years before moving to Atlanta. There she worked at Mick's, a concept with the Peasant Restaurant Group. Wendy was part of the new store opening team for The Peasant and lived in Atlanta, Baltimore, Minneapolis and Miami before moving back to Durham.

In 1999, Wendy and Piper finally put their dreams into action and created Piper's in the Park located in Durham, on the edge of Research Triangle Park. "The Girls", as they are affectionately known, pride themselves on creating a quality product, at a reasonable price with excellent customer service.
